About

A boutique investment firm that has sat on both sides of the table

Escher Capital runs private fundraises for a wide range of companies. We have advised on raises from two million to four hundred million, for companies and for funds. A deep bench of senior advisors and a global network of investors give us better reach than firms many times our size.

How we work

Office lobby with a dark sculptural spiral stair, timber panelling and two people greeting each other
The lobby stair on the way up
We work on the cause, not the symptom
A raise that stalls is usually a raise where the argument does not hold. We find out where it fails before an investor does, then fix that.
We have sat on both sides of the table
The team has prepared materials for institutional allocators and has run diligence for venture funds. The review is credible because we have been the ones writing the pass memo.
We take a company where its own network does not reach
Private family offices do not publish, do not list and do not take inbound. Access to them is built over years and it is the part of this work a founder cannot replicate.
One raise at a time, to a finish
We take on a small number of mandates so the campaign gets attention through diligence and terms rather than only at kickoff.

The team

An engagement is run by 3 partner seats between them, one per phase. You meet the partner who will do the work in the first conversation, not a salesperson who hands you over afterwards.

Behind them sits an advisory bench of 17 — public company chief executives, a former three star general, private equity partners, and product and marketing leaders from Apple, Microsoft and Uber — brought into a mandate where their sector and their network carry weight.

Where we sit

Three offices in New York City. Meetings happen at any of them, and most first calls happen before anyone travels.

World Trade Center

175 Greenwich Street
3 World Trade Center, New York, NY 10007

The office of record. First meetings and closings happen here, in the middle of Lower Manhattan rather than at its edge.

Financial District

345 California Street
San Francisco, CA 94104

The West Coast room. California Street sits among the venture firms rather than on the Peninsula, and Sand Hill Road is forty minutes south when a meeting requires it.

St Mary Axe

70 St Mary Axe
London EC3A 8BE

The European room, in the City rather than in Mayfair. A City address reads as institutional, which is the right register for capital work, and Mayfair is twenty minutes west.

Lower Manhattan from the air at night, Battery Park and the harbour beyond, the Statue of Liberty lit on the water and a full-height American flag hung down a building face
Downtown and the harbour at night
Lever House on Park Avenue at sunset, a Midtown glass tower
Midtown, on the way to a meeting
Three people in conversation on soft seating around a low table in a warm, plant-filled office lounge, a laptop and papers between them
A working session mid campaign
Two men talking on a Midtown roof terrace with planting, slatted timber screens and skyscrapers behind
A terrace above Midtown, where most second meetings happen

Where the experience comes from

Escher Capital has worked with over 200 companies on investment campaigns across the last eight years, representing over a billion dollars in aggregate target raise.

Before that, our principals worked inside major asset managers — firms managing up to $250 billion — sitting with institutional investors, sovereign wealth funds and family offices, presenting to them and reporting back to them on how their investments were performing. That is the side of the table most advisers have never sat on, and it is why an adversarial review here tends to find what an investment committee would have found.

Some of the companies we have worked with are run by people who came out of BlackRock and Bridgewater. Those relationships, and the ones across top-tier sovereign wealth funds in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and elsewhere, are the reason a campaign here reaches allocators a founder cannot reach alone.

Broker of record

Securities-related activity is conducted through a registered broker-dealer, member FINRA/SIPC, acting as broker of record. Escher Capital is not a registered broker-dealer or investment adviser.

In practice this means the advisory work, the model, the materials and the campaign are ours, and any activity that requires registration is conducted through the broker-dealer acting as broker of record. We say which entity is doing what before an engagement begins.
